How it works
These pages explain the ideas Perspective is built on. They are not step by step guides. Read them when you want to know why something behaves the way it does.
Projects and plans
A project is the work you want done. A plan is one way of doing it: the roles it needs, the people who fill them, the hours and the dates. A project can have several plans, but only one is active at a time, and the active plan is the one that counts toward capacity and cost. Plans you are still shaping can be marked tentative, so they show in the grid without using up anyone's committed time.
Roles and permissions
What you can see and do in Perspective depends on the roles you hold, such as Admin, PMO, PM or Team Lead. A role you hold in a company also applies to the companies below it. Project managers manage the projects they are a manager of, and team leads manage the teams they lead. Separately, your company's plan (Starter, Professional or Enterprise) decides which areas of the app are switched on.
How costs are worked out
Every money figure comes from a few ingredients: the rates people are paid and billed at, the equipment and licences a plan uses, the hours planned and the hours approved on timesheets. Knowing how they combine explains why a plan can cost nothing, or why the forecast moves.
